Continuing with some recent updates…
Eugene was on fire this summer with the first inaugural Visual Arts Festival. Not only did they bring back the Mayor’s Art Show (it ran all of August), but they timed it with the Eugene Biennial (also this past August), the 20x21 mural project and the new Bridge public art exhibitions project. My painting above made it into the Mayor’s show this year. This piece captures a much more loose approach to painting, and is less analytical than my past work. This one also captures some interesting and funny imagery I’ve been using the last couple years. I don’t typically do figural work, but I find the headless figure (body with no identity) paired with the empty Batman cape (identity with no body) compelling and hilarious.
High five to the city of Eugene for making visual art important again. MVAIA? I’m going to put that on a red hat
